Mission:
VDI/VDE-ITs primary objective is to promote R&D in information technology, to assist governmental authorities in developing initiatives for the diffusion of technologies and to speed up product and process innovation by assisting particularly small and medium-sized enterprises in the exploitation and valorisation of R&D results. Its mission focuses not only on technology developments but also on related economic and social implications.

Activities:
Since 1990 VDI/VDE-IT is managing the German Microsystems Technology Programme on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Technology (BMBF) .
For the Federal Ministry of Economy and Labour (BMWA) VDI/VDE-IT carries out the start-up programme for technology-based companies (FUTOUR) and the socalled INNONET programme supporting university-industry co-operation.
Further programme management services are provided at regional and local level, e.g. to the Bavarian and Lower Saxony government in the microssystems field and in the Berlin. At international level VDI/VDE-IT is working for the CEC in the field of dissemination of research results and awareness activities.
VDI/VDE-IT is the host organisation for the INNOVATION RELAY CENTRE (IRC ) in Northern Germany. The objectives of the IRC are to facilitate cross-border co-operation of SMEs, to improve access to R&D-results in particular for SMEs and to assist in the process of exploitation.
VDI/VDE-IT carries out socio-economic studies and provides business support services.
